My Ancestors’ House accompanies Doris Ng, a 25 year-old Chinese-Canadian woman, as she searches for her ancestors during her first trip to China
We join Doris off the beaten path in the Canton region, from which the first Chinese immigrants arrived in Canada at the beginning of the 20th century. A quest for the key to her ancestors’ house turns into an engaging voyage during which Doris discovers as much about herself as about her ancestors, her family’s past and ancient family rituals that are rapidly losing ground in the new China.
